The Late Amer Abdelhadi (Abu
Omar) in a Few Lines
With shock and great sadness we received news in the early
morning hours of Friday, October 10, 2006--a dear and precious
person was lost to us and to the whole population of his beloved
city, Nablus.
Words cannot capture who this man was. His passing is indeed the
loss for the whole city.
Abu Omar was not an ordinary man in the history of Nablus. His
energies were exerted in the service of his city. He did not
spare time, money or effort.
Inspired by his love and dedication for his town, Abu Omar
directed Tariq Al Mahabeh with the highest standards of care,
professionalism and expertise, thus turning this Palestinian
radio station to the most credible, serious and committed source
of information for Nabulsis, other Palestinians and all those
committed to freedom, justice and dignity around the world.
Abu Omar did not Tariq Al Mahabeh as a source of revenues nor
expected financial gains; he rather saw this project as a
vehicle through which he could make a contribution to the well
being of his people.
On a personal level, Abu Omar was a humble human being,
respectful of others and greatly appreciative of their
contributions and labor. Despite the trying conditions of life
under occupation that have adversely affected all our
institutions, including Tariq Al Mahabeh, Abu Omar remained fair
and committed to everyone around him.
Amer Abdelhadi was a great person by all measures. He was known
for his persistence and steadfastness. He was known for his
determination to success. His loss is a great loss—a loss of a
role model for work and for achievements, I cannot but say, may
God take you in your mercy, Abu Omar, and may your soul rest in
peace.

Book of Condolences
Amer Abdelhadi (1963-2006)
Amer Abdelhadi, 43, director and founder of Radio Tariq Al
Mahabeh, TMFM, which is broadcast from Nablus was killed in a
car accident in the early morning hours of Friday, November 10,
2006, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. An announcement by the
family was broadcast on Radio Tariq Al Mahabeh in Nablus.
Amer Abdelhadi (Abu Omar) is survived by his wife, Khawla Touqan
Abdelhadi, and three children, Omar, 16, Qamar, 10, and Ameed,
8. Abu Omar is also survived by his mother, Um Samir; two
sisters, Rabab of New York and Michigan, and Reem of London; and
three brothers, Samir in Dubai, Saad in Nablus, and Nasser in
Ramallah.
Born in the West Bank City of Nablus, Abu Omar is the son of the
prominent Palestinian businessman, the late Ibrahim Abdelhadi,
founder of several companies and one of the pillars of
Palestinian economy under Israeli occupation.
Amer Abdelhadi founded Radio Tariq Al Mahabeh in 1997. He
specifically developed this first Palestinian privately owned
radio station as a media outlet to bring the voice of Palestine
to the world community. Today the radio station employs over 20
reporters, producers and broadcasters. The station has trained
119 journalists who now have promising careers in various
Palestinian institutions.
Two years ago, Amer Abdelhadi moved temporarily to Dubai where
he participated in the founding of a Palestinian business. He
remained in Dubai until his passing on the morning of Friday as
a result of an unfortunate car accident.
Abu Omar was a man
who always sought to develop Palestinian media. Radio Tariq Al
Mahabeh was subjected to several bombings during the Israeli
invasion of 2002. In addition, the station’s broadcasting
equipment was confiscated on three different occasions by the
Israeli occupation authorities. Nonetheless, Abu Omar’s sense of
responsibility as a leader in Palestinian national media pushed
him to rebuild the station anew. In this spirit, Radio Tariq Al
Mahabeh continues to broadcast news of Nablus and the resilience
of its people despite the severity and harshness of conditions
under occupation.
